This position is contingent upon funding.

Summary: Pact seeks a Senior Communications and Advocacy Advisor for an anticipated USAID program in Nigeria to strengthen civil society. The Senior Communications and Advocacy Advisor will lead the design, implementation and reporting of the project’s Communication and Advocacy plan. S/he will support sub grantees to develop and implement advocacy and communications plans concerning democracy, governance and accountability of public officials. In addition, this position holder will engage the media in issues of civil society engagement for transparent and accountable governance in Nigeria.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the design and development of program-specific communication and advocacy plans

• Responsible for the development of communication and advocacy plans in partnership with sub grantees

• In charge of all project-related communication activities and contact with press and other users of information

• In charge of developing project success stories for dissemination to the relevant stakeholders

• In charge of supporting sub grantees to ensure compliance with branding requirements

• In charge of project advertising

• In charge of collecting, collating, analyzing the spread and scope of project information and advocacy briefs

• Responsible for managing all press related matters for the project

• Responsible for compliance to communication standards of project by project staff and sub grantees

• Responsible for ensuring that project COP is briefed an prepared when facing press interviews

• Supports program staff to develop press and advocacy briefs for specific components of the project

• Supports the implementation of project evaluations by providing relevant information to consultants and/or other staff

• Manages all project related communication and advocacy resources for easy access by staff and others

• Contributes to program management concerning all communication and advocacy issues of the project

• Acts as the official project spokes person

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A post graduate university degree in any the following or related fields: mass communication, social science, international development

• Minimum of five years’ experience in designing, managing and implementing communications and advocacy activities with an international NGO.

• Experience with writing press briefs as well as hosting information sessions and press conferences

• Knowledge of press ethics and awareness of guidelines and standards for press

• Awareness of relevant Nigerian government policies and activities in the media
