Baker Hughes Incorporated and its subsidiaries supply wellbore related products, and technology services and systems for drilling, formation evaluation, completion and production, and reservoir technology and consulting to the oil and natural gas industry worldwide. It operates in two segments, Drilling and Evaluation, and Completion and Production. Baker Hughes recruits Graduate Nonfield engineers
As well as hands-on field roles, we have a range of engineering opportunities in the office, laboratory, or factory, including reliability, supply chain management, R&D, and design. For reliability and supply chain management, we offer comprehensive three-year rotational training programs.
What you need
Some office or laboratory-based roles are open to those who have a Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering. For the majority of nonfield roles, we’re typically seeking people who’ve specialized in a relevant discipline.
We are seeking people who
are fluent in English (able to achieve Level 5 on a global English test)
have the legal right to work in the country in which you apply.
For supply chain roles, you will also need
Bachelor’s in supply chain management (MBA with a focus in supply chain management is a plus)
minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.5/4.0.
For reliability roles, you will also need a Master’s in
applied science
applied statistics
industrial engineering
mechanics
operations research
reliability engineering.
For R&D or design roles, you will also need
Ph.D. in engineering, physics or nuclear engineering.
We’re looking for people who are motivated and persistent, as well as resilient and adaptable. You will also need to show creative problem-solving and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Depending on the geographic area in which you live, there may be specific employment requirements according to your location, which will be explained during the application process.
Role
Supply chain
We obtain raw materials and components, transform them into products and services, and move the products and services from suppliers to customers. Our manufacturing and supply chain facilities are located strategically around the world so our customers can work more efficiently. The structured three-year Supply Chain Rotational Program (SCRP) includes formal training and on-job experience that aims to prepare you for a leadership position. It will involve you in tasks ranging from purchasing and strategic sourcing to materials analysis and global logistics.
Reliability
We’re committed to reliability and quality in everything we do. When you join this three-year rotational program, you’ll undertake a variety of engineering roles, ranging from reliability and environmental testing to product diagnostics and staff audits.
R&D/design
Our Technology Centers look for Ph.D. graduates in engineering and science disciplines and offer you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a research, development, or design role. Our work involves us in developing and implementing complex and sophisticated solutions. That means you are likely to be working with emerging technologies for hydrocarbon production, extraction, and fluids handling. You could participate in projects tackling a range of issues, from high-temperature shale-gas formations and other unconventional hydrocarbons to remote deepwater frontiers, geothermal energy, and carbon capture and storage.

Learning and development
Supply chain
If you join the structured three-step supply chain training program, you’ll complete six assignments over three years within three tracts: strategic sourcing, production management, and logistics management. Regular assessments will ensure you have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to move to the next step, each of which is designed to be completed in 12 months.
You will take on specific roles–initially in Finance, or as a Buyer–where you will develop expertise by performing each role and receiving constructive feedback from your mentor. You will also benefit throughout the program from instructor-led courses, structured on-job training, and e-learning modules. Further developmental roles will follow, which will vary according to your interests and our business needs. These could include logistics; quality; global sourcing; human resources; or health, safety, and environment.
Reliability
The three-year rotational program within our Reliability, Quality, and Product Service organization requires the completion of six, six-month assignments in a variety of reliability and quality engineering roles.
These roles vary with location and business need, but could include
design reliability engineering
field reliability and product service
quality assurance
supplier quality
reliability and environmental testing
product diagnostics and failure analysis
audit staff
performance contracts engineering
repair and maintenance
operations and field engineering
manufacturing/supply chain
new product development
Continuing education
Because we believe continuing education is essential to our success, Learning is one of our Core Values. As part of this pursuit of excellence, we have dedicated training facilities in Houston and Dubai, where we offer employees instruction and hands-on practice in operating equipment and tools.
Everyone at Baker Hughes is encouraged to have an individual career development plan and to work with a mentor to discover ways they can best develop their capabilities and fulfill their potential. We also run Communities of Practice – comprised of professionals and managers involved in similar projects – to encourage knowledge transfer and peer review.
Prospects
Supply chain
Once you have completed your training program, you’ll begin a minimum two-year assignment, taking on responsibility within the supply chain organization. Potential career opportunities include, but are not limited to, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, global logistics, project management, strategic sourcing, materials management, purchasing, coordination, trade compliance, plant management, and operations management.
Reliability
After completing three years of rotational assignments, you’ll begin a minimum two-year assignment within the organization. Longer term, you could find yourself building a career in a field such as quality assurance, performance contracts engineering, operations and field engineering, manufacturing/supply chain, or new product development.
R&D/design
Depending on your specialization and where you work, there are many opportunities for you to build your knowledge and expertise in a specific area or to branch out into a related technology field.
