A world leader in FMCG household, health and personal care, to select a Scientific Service Manager for its research and development operations in Nigeria.The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and managing a functional laboratory within the Regional Scientific Services Team to provide on-going support to local/regional Marketing, Commercial and Supply teams.The Scientific Service Manager would report to the SSG Director and covers a geographical region which includes Africa & Middle East.Co-ordinates objectives with Marketing to develop, prioritise, track and lead multiple global business and project milestonesAnalyze consumer complaint statistics, identify problems, and propose resolutions.Implement global product initiatives with R&D Development guidance and final approvalAct as a technical resource to help educate local functions on technology and category product specifics.Manage laboratory activities to provide clear definition of product, claims, raw materials, packaging and regulatory requirements to R&D Development Teams from a local market perspective in area of technical responsibility.Manage activities to qualify local/regional raw and packaging materials and suppliers in area of technical responsibility.Interact with other regional Scientific Services managers to share best practices.Day to day management of laboratory personnel and budget.Recognise global opportunities and understand the needs of consumers.Work with supply to assist in the evaluation of third party contractors.Participate in periodic quality audits.Proactively identifies opportunities to apply innovative solutions to R&D challengesProvide technical information, proof of claims conduit between Development Teams and local/regional Marketing and provide product and packaging guidance to local/regional marketing in area of technical responsibility.Implement support programs for Supply Chain; respond to consumer complaints and quality issues, competitors’ challenges and legal inquiries concerning technical matters relating to products marketed within the region.Motivation and development of Scientific Services human resources within a result-oriented culture, where personal responsibility, initiative, teamwork and mutual respect.Proactively seek out opportunities for cost optimization of formula and process improvementsResponsible for maintaining all products speed to market, categories net revenue growth, contribution growth, quality, squeeze and implementation of EPD/NPDEnsure that all SOPs are implemented and followed according to global guidelinesMust have a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a B.Sc, 6 years with MSc and 4years with a PhD.Experience running an R&D laboratory or parts of it.Proven track record in active collaboration with R&D and non-R&D functionsProven technical and scientific experience in one or more Research & Development areas.Proven experience in leading multi-functional and multi-cultural project teams.Experience with recruitment, management and development of people.Understanding of P&L management.Capable of building strong working relationships and motivating teams to deliver outstanding results with or without hierarchical relationships.Understanding of marketing strategy and planning issues.Consumer understanding, priority setting and project managementBias for action, capability to define, evaluate and assess risks.Must be able to manage third partyMust possess coaching skills, analytical skills and leadership skills.Strong communication skills, both written and oral (in English).Must be computer literate.Appetite for exploring new and previously uncharted territories.If your experience, personal characteristics and qualifications meet the position specifications and your personal objectives are to seek such a challenge, then we would like to hear from you with details of your current earnings, up to date CV and explanation as to why your achievements to date fit you for consideration
