Managing partner relationships and coordination within LagosEnsuring delivery of resultsInspiring a movement to achieve gender equalityVoices for Change (V4C) is a five year transformational change programme funded by DFID, tackling underlying systemic and structural causes of gender inequality and exclusion of adolescent girls and women (AGW) in Nigeria. It is firmly focused on developing an enabling environment for change, and set out to tackle root causes of inequality and discrimination. V4C will do this by operating at federal level and in four States (Kano, Kaduna, Lagos, Enugu) to deliver five outputs:
Output 1: 120,000 Adolescent girls and women with improved life skills.Output 2: Community of 2.75 million people with improved knowledge and attitudes that challenges gender discrimination.Output 3: Key influencers, including 12,000 boys and men and 4,000 leaders, with improved skills and attitudes to girls and women.Output 4: Greater inclusion of girls and women’s issues in political and governance processes.Output 5: Improved use of evidence in policy and practice.Our Mission is to inspire a generation of new voices to “speak up and speak out” empowering young women to achieve their real and full potential.
We will achieve this by:
§ Creating space and opportunities for girls to grow;
§ Getting the support of boys and men;
§ Removing formal and informal barriers to change
§ Influencing both behavioural and legal change in Nigeria
Our Vision is that V4C will be known and recognised for creating “new ways to change behaviour”, contributing to a Nigeria where every girl and boy, woman and man, achieve their full potential.
Purpose of Position
The purpose of the State Coordinator, Lagos /Enugu role is to inspire and motivate V4C partners at state level to drive the movement for change in gender equality. This will involve participating in key events, ensuring the quality and pace of delivery, monitoring the effectiveness of activities, bringing state partners together to share lessons, and creating linkages with other DFID funded programmes and development partners.
Key Responsibilities
1.Create momentum at state level for implementation of V4C initiatives.
2.Support the Output 1 – AGW Life Skills Lead in effectively leading on activities within post-secondary institutions.
3.Create state level saturation of consistent messages that aim to influence the attitudes of V4C’s target audiences.
4.Ensure that V4C has the information required to monitor and measure the success of initiatives.
5.Continuously improve coordination and implementation of state level initiatives by networking formally and informally with other Relationships Coordinators.
6.Identify and build on synergies and overlaps with other DFID programmes by liaising with other programme partners, especially the Population Council, CSAGE and Girl hub.
The State Coordinator will directly report to the AGW Life Skills Lead (Output 1).
The position will be based in State of Lagos, with regular travel to Abuja (approximately once/month).
Requirements
Minimum education and experience required
§ Minimum of a Master’s degree in social sciences, humanities or any related discipline.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the development sector especially on gender and research.Key knowledge required
§ Excellent working knowledge of Nigerian culture.
§ Subject matter expert on social change programming, particularly gender equality issues, relationships and violence towards AGW, men and boys work.
§ Knowledge of AGW lifestyle.
§ Knowledge of key influencers in affecting a change in attitudes towards AGW.
§ Knowledge of how to access relevant communication channels (e.g., radio stations).
§ Understanding of physical and virtual safe spaces.
§ Knowledge of other DFID programmes, donor funded safe space programmes, civil societies in safe space work within the state and other programme partners (e.g. Population Council, CSAGE, Girl hub).
§ Understanding of how to access government representatives, religious leaders and other key state influencers.
