Job Description
REPORTING:
Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor, Chief Engineer or Offshore Installation Manager (OIM).
SUPERVISION:
Supervises the Chief Electrician and Electrician.
LOCATION:
Offshore location.
PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:
Electrical Engineering degree or High school diploma. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.Knowledge of all technical calculations required for electrical operation of the drilling unit and basic computer skills.BASIC FUNCTION:
Supervise the maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment onboard the rig.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations/Maintenance:
Ensure daily inspections and maintenance on electrical equipment are carried out.
Authority I
Enforce the permit to work and isolation system within the electrical department.
Authority I
Ensure the proper implementation of the Preventive Maintenance System (PMS).
Authority I
Supervise the operation and service of power generation equipment, i.e. generators and engine controls, SCRs, switchgears, transformers, power distribution, et cetera.
Authority I
Supervise the maintenance and repair general rig equipment such as HVAC system, refrigeration plants, power and communication systems, et cetera.
Authority I
Supervise the maintenance and repair of electrical components of drilling equipment, i.e. DC drilling motors and auxiliaries, Top Drive System, mud pumps, et cetera.

Supervise the maintenance and repair of electrical components of marine equipment, i.e. thruster motors and auxiliaries, ballast pumps, anchor windlasses, cranes, et cetera.

Plan periodic maintenance according to the PMS guidelines and coordinate same with supervisor and other department heads.

Maintain an adequate supply of spares in order to fulfil maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation – generate requisitions as required.

Inform supervisor and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig.

Implement the outstanding recommendations from audits, as issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities or rig management.

Ensure that reports for repair and maintenance of equipment are accurate and complete.

Assist the Maintenance Supervisor/Chief Engineer in supplying information for maintenance and repair budget.

Communicate equipment problems or breakdown with Field Support group and equipment vendor.

Ensure all electrical equipment brought onto the rig, including third party equipment is suitably certified and meets regulatory requirements.

Plan and coordinate with other departments prior to any major activity such as inspections, rig move, et cetera.

Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to Field Support Group.
