The firm has earned a solid reputation among its clients and missions worldwide and is well-regarded by competitors and partners alike.</P><P>Position Summary:</P><P>Creative International seeks a qualified Literacy/Reading Education Specialist for an anticipated USAID-funded education project in Nigeria. Based in Abuja, the project seeks to improve quality of early grade instruction in the early primary grades through a mother tongue reading intervention with transition to English. Responsibilities include working with Creative staff to identify, develop, and harmonize effective mother tongue literacy and English transition instructional approaches to be used in the early grades. The Reading Education Specialist will further provide technical support for the development of a literacy instruction framework with related teacher and student materials in collaboration with the MoE. The Specialist will also provide teacher education support for instructional coaches working teachers to implement the revised curriculum. The assignment is highly technical and managerial, and is designed to provide high-level support for effective local capacity building. This position is contingent on Creative International being awarded the anticipated contract.</P><P>Primary Responsibilities:</P><P>The Literacy/Reading Specialist will be responsible for the following:<BR>•Working closely with the Chief of Party, Ministry of Education, partners and other stakeholders to develop and operationalize mother tongue literacy and English transition frameworks.<BR>•Assisting in the design and implementation of curriculum and instructional pedagogical approaches to improve early literacy in mother tongue and English transition.<BR>•Serving as a top-level advisor to the Ministry of Education on mother tongue literacy instruction particularly for early grades; making recommendations, as needed.<BR>•Collaborating with the other donor implemented projects and partners working on mother tongue literacy in the early primary grades.<BR>•Directing the implementation of related parent or community involvement initiatives in mother tongue literacy skills acquisition in a non-formal environment.<BR>•Designing and implementing professional development activities for preservice and inservice teachers on early grade mother tongue literacy and transition to English instruction.<BR>•Overseeing the implementation of mother tongue literacy and transition to English technical aspects of the project.<BR>•Participating in the design and implementation of a continuous assessment program for the target languages.</P><P>Required Skills & Qualifications:</P><P>•Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree and ten years of experience in the education sector with deep understanding of scientifically based reading research;<BR>•Knowledge of a balanced literacy framework, early literacy competencies and reading diagnostic measures;<BR>•Ability to measure basic foundation skills for literacy in the early grades<BR>•Knowledge of mother tongue and English transition instruction strategies<BR>•Expertise in assessing/diagnosing ability to read and comprehend, then recommending appropriative interventions;<BR>•Experience working in the international community;<BR>•Excellent oral and written communication skills;<BR>•Must possess leadership abilities and proven team/interpersonal skills.</P><P>Application Instructions:</P><P>To apply for this position, please visit the Careers section of our website and perform a keyword search for Literacy/Ready Specialist-Nigeria .
