Our client, an internationally renowned drilling contractor is now seeking a qualified and experienced Captain for their Liftboat division. West African experience is preferred.
The Role
• Responsible for the safe and efficient running of the vessel he/she has been appointed to command.
• Sets a high standard of personal and professional conduct and to set an example to the crew under his/her command.
• Gives attention to the safety of the ship and crew, and will ensure that safe working practices are employed.
• Responsible for the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally compliant operation of assigned area.
• Commander of the vessel to transport passengers, freight, equipment, and other cargo across oceans, bays, lakes, and in coastal waters; set course of ships using navigational aids, such as charts, area plotting sheets, compass, and sextant, and orders crew worker at helm to steer ship.
• Determines geographical position of the ship, using loran or azimuths of celestial bodies; inspects ship to ensure that crew and passengers observe regulations pertaining to safety and efficient operation of ship and maintains ship log.
The Applicant
Experience:-
• Must be licensed by U.S coast Guard for steam and motor ship according to waters navigated and tonnage of ship
• Possess a Master’s License (USCG exam)
• Experience of 1600 ton for a class 200 vessel
• Must be able to demonstrate skills and aptitude of vessel handling and management
• Able to set courses, geographical position, calculate land fall and avoid hazards to shipping utililising aids such as light, lighthouses, buoys, charts, plotting sheets, GPS, etc.
• Able to navigate bays, sounds, lakes and coastal waters
• Fully familiar with all required marine functions i.e., laws, regulations and directives affecting the operation of the vessel
• Able to identify and prioritise maintenance and repair programs
• Identify and respond to potentially hazardous conditions when maneuvering
• Procedures to pump fluids and cargo handling
• Stability maintenance of cargo
• Anchor handling
• Emergency response
• HSE
Specific Job Requirement
• Must be physically fit able to work and live offshore with limited medical care
• Must be able to climb ship stairs and ladders, pick up objects, reach overhead
• Must be able to ride in a personnel sling/basket between vessels, structures etc..
• Must be able to ride in a helicopter
• Must be able to use hand tools and assist mechanics with repairs of crane, gears and pumps
