Personal Profile: Concern Universal requires a Country Director to manage and further develop an existing substantial programme. The post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced and dynamic individual to make a significant contribution to the organisation’s work. We seek sound interpersonal and strong strategic planning skills. Working within a motivated team of staff and alongside local partners, the candidate will have several years representational and project management experience, ideally with a livelihoods focus. A positive disposition, can-do attitude, strategic and analytical skills are essential.

CU has been an influential organisation in Nigeria since work began in 2001, often being the only International Development presence in the South-Eastern States of Cross River, Ebonyi. Today the organisation works with nine Non-Governmental Local Partners and two Governmental Partners in over 150 communities, serving over 250,000 people with approximately £1 million per annum on development initiatives

We focus on:

• Effectively tackling environmental protection and climate change within the unique mangrove and tropical forest eco-system of Cross River State - the largest of its kind in Africa; reducing deforestation, supporting re-forestation, and improving the quality of life of the indigenous peoples living within the forest • Improving the Human Rights record of Southern Nigeria through initiatives tackling the specific challenge areas of; empowerment of women and an improvement in their ability to voice their rights; tackling harmful traditional practices such as Female Genital Mutilation; tackling the trafficking of children and other vulnerable groups • Making meaningful moves towards Good Governance through the empowerment of communities to demand for services and capacity building of local authorities to consult the priorities of their citizen and deliver appropriate services. • Ensuring access to Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene promotion, improving health and reducing the prevalence of water-borne diseases • Supporting business orientated farming through agricultural development and alternative income generation activities and enabling access to microfinance and markets
