To lead on developing, managing and monitoring the implementation of an integrated programme to reduce malnutrition in Northern Nigeria. This includes four core elements:
1. Process of integration of management and prevention of severe acute malnutrition into the health system
2. Running of nutrition sites in the focus Local Government Authorities (LGAs)
3. Community component of the programme and
4. Raising the profile of nutrition in the Child Survival/Every One Campaign
Essential
- Internationally recognised third level qualification in nutrition (MSc in public health nutrition or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in nutrition programme management (including CTC/CMAM /IMAM programme and strategies to prevent malnutrition) in the context of international development or emergencies, including the management of budgets and personnel, in low- or middle-income countries
- Expertise or understanding of technical issues around policy and programming to support the integrated treatment of acute malnutrition within health systems.
- A clear commitment to, and experience of, developing and coaching professional and national staff, and partners, in particular government at senior levels, combined with the ability to give direct actionable feedback.
- Proven capacity to develop a network of contacts with key players from government, donors, international agencies and NGOs, to maintain these relationships over time and to raise funding from donors
- Proven capacity to deliver results against objectives, reporting schedules and work plans
- Sound strategic thinking and planning skills, including ability to think creatively and innovate and to set priorities, manageable work plans and evaluate progress
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels. Tact and diplomacy are essential
- Fluency in written and spoken English and in using word processing and spreadsheet computer packages.
- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s values and mission
- Willingness to live and work in a traditional Islamic environment.
- Sensitivity as well as sound negotiation and diplomatic skills are a must
- Flexible and good sense of humour
Desirable
- Knowledge and particular interest in Nigeria and/or West Africa
- Understanding of food security and livelihoods programmes
- Understanding of social relations and commitment to integrate gender, diversity and other related issues into programme activities.
