Job DescriptionThe fund was founded in May of 2011. Therefore, all staff members have the chance to do significant, meaningful work as the team works to shape the impact potential of the fund and the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization.
A fellow will help to shape and actively participate in the following activities:
Lead Generation: Critical to the success of the fund is the development of a strong pipeline of potential investments. In this activity, the fellow seeks out and participates in forming partnerships with other service organizations and/or individuals with access to qualified leads, as well as coming up with other creative ways to find investment opportunities.
Due Diligence: Once a lead is identified, it is necessary to understand whether it is an appropriate fit forus and worthy of investment.
Consulting Services:
Our mission is to come alongside entrepreneurs to help them grow their businesses. At each stage of our engagement with entrepreneurs, we seek to provide consulting on technical and business strategy. These consulting services continue, if not increase, once an investment is made.
Administration: A fellow will help to create and shape quality, efficient systems for both administration and finance.
Operations:
As a start-up, it is expected that all people, including fellows, will help with a variety of operations, legal, marketing, accounting, and administrative activities to assist in the development of the organization.
Qualifications
We are seeking exceptional professionals with 2 to 5+ years of work experience, and a demonstrated commitment for international development.
Strong work experience: Examples include a demanding professional work experience or successful entrepreneurial experience. Candidates from a variety of backgrounds are welcome to apply. Some specific backgrounds of interest are: management consulting, finance, accounting, and entrepreneurship.
Leadership and initiative: able to share experiences at work and outside of professional work
Graduation from undergraduate studies including demonstration of solid performance (include GPA and test scores on your resume)
Eagerness to be a part of a groundbreaking start-up. Start-ups are unique in their ability to provide a seemingly endless amount of work. Candidates should be eager to wear many hats and put in significant hours to help build the organization and its impact. Also, candidates should be very self-motivated, able to manage their own agenda to accomplish their varying responsibilities.
A willingness to commit to living in East Africa for the entirety of the 12 month fellowship. This role has the potential to develop into a long-term, career-track role. The ideal candidate will have at least one year demonstrated experience working in the developing world, although this is not a strict requirement.
